Dave Viner says: Thank
you to all the many people who helped out at The Halesowen Road
Race last Sunday to make the event a great success; a shame we
had a crash in the race but thankfully all the riders injured
are on their way to recovery - particular thanks to Ian, Carl
& Jo who each helped with 1st aid.

HCC says: Beth
Crumpton who is a life member of the club, represented her country
at the World Cup MTB XC in Germany yesterday. She did very well,
finishing 12th and as an 18 year old in a field of U23s, that's
fantastic!

Jo Philips says: FNTL
was a superb success last night due to the host of people who
volunteered to run it. We could still do with more help. If you
are a parent or friend, you can volunteer and still watch the
racing. We are in need of help with the following jobs:
Sign On, Cafe, BBQ, Setting up/Clearing Away, Gate.
It is our intention to do the same as last year and try to rota
jobs around so its not down to the same people each week. Anyone
who is able to put their name down to go on the rota, please email
Jo Phillips at treasurer@halesowencycling.net; with availability
and what you can help with.

Calling
all Vets! I am trying to put together a list of the vets within
the club so that we can arrange to meet up for a beer and discuss
the various things we might want to do, your needs and things
to be raised with the committee, plus a vets track meeting I hope
to organise later this year. So please email me at williamfotheringham@halesowencycling.net

Dave Viner says: It
is proposed to ask Dudley MBC to place a pedestrian crossing a
short distance east of the Manor Abbey Stadium to make it possible
for club members/users to have safe access into & out of the
club on foot & bicycle. This project has the support of Mr
Bob Hickman the President of HA&CC, the cycling section committee
& many club members.
It
would help greatly if club members who agree a crossing would
be a big boost to the club undertake to write a letter of support
[if possible typed A4 size] for the attention of Mr J POLYCHRONAKIS,
Chief Executive Dudley MBC. Please hand your letter for safe keeping
to Roy, club steward.

Ed Walker says:
Please have a look at this petition. Many of our members participate
in Road Racing and the ratification of the petition will mean
that the riders ride in far safer conditions.
Give
powers to stop vehicles to the National Escort Group
The
National Escort Group (NEG) provide safety cover for cyclists
racing on the UK roads. They have no power to stop vehicles so
their presence is there only cover. Following the tragic loss
of a cyclist on the Severn Bridge RR I would ask that it be considered
to allow the NEG powers to stop vehicles whilst the race in progress
for no longer than 4-5 mins much like they do in Belgium. This
will provide safer racing on the road and reduce the risk for
motorist and cyclist thus allowing the Police to continue on their
daily duty as the risk is drastically reduced due to the presence
of the NEG in an official capacity. The NEG work closely with
British Cycling and have worked on the biggest races in the UK
inc the London 2012 Olympics. Simple powers of stopping vehicles
WILL save lives.
