track racing
Halesowen are unashamed trackies! Our outdoor track first opened in 1947, and after 60 years of racing, it remains the premier venue for track racing in the region.
The 400 metre Tarmac banked track was relaid just a few years ago and has a very good fast racing surface with plenty of width and a substantial 'Côte d'Azur' or hard shoulder. The track is available for use free of charge to full members. Please check that it isn't booked when you want to ride, and please do not ride alone – it could be a long and painful wait if you happen to crash and there is no-one else around to get help!
friday night track league
This is the mainstay of our track racing and continues to attract an excellent attendance and some very good, exciting racing combined with an excellent safety record.
The Friday Night Track League runs from May to September. Signing on and warm-up from 6:30pm each week and the races start at 7:15pm. Races are held in five categories: Freewheeler 'A'; Freewheeler 'B'; Youth; Senior 'A'; and Senior 'B'.
The programme is carefully devised to provide interest and variety across a good range of sprint and endurance events. This year, we ran a Madison league within the league. Thanks to sponsorship from The Madison Group, we were able to promote this skilful and fascinating race to a wider audience.

summer club championships
We hold the club track championships in September each year (although slightly later this year due to the flood damage). There's always a great atmosphere as members compete for a share of the fine array of silverware to be won. The racing is good fun and always attracts new faces as well as the FNTL regulars. Indeed, we suspect that for some of the mums and dads it's the only track event they enter each year – and with handicapped races as well as sprint heats everyone is in with a chance of a prize.
Trophies and prizes are awarded at our glittering star-studded Annual Dinner.
dudley international grand prix
If the FNTL is the cake, then the Dudley Grand Prix is the icing! Traditionally held in mid-August, the Dudley GP moves to an earlier slot in July 2008 to avoid fixture clashes and summer holiday absences.
The Dudley GP is now a UCI Class 2 meeting, and as such attracts a good selection of elite and first category riders from across Britain as well as overseas riders hungry for victory and prize money. It's a great spectator sport made even more accessible by expert commentary from seasoned voices such as Hugh Porter MBE and John Harris. Admission is free to spectators.
other competitions
Many club members compete on the track at Regional, National, European and even World level. We fully support all of our riders and have a Support Fund to assist with entry fees where other funding does not cover them.
Our list of medal winners is truly impressive. Check out our champions here!
